Adventure Channel Canada

A YouTube channel that films Ontario ATV trails and waterways end to end, so riders can scout a route before they load the trailer. We built its home on the web: a searchable catalogue of every ride, and the system that runs its group rides.

Our role

A channel needed a home, and a way to gather its riders.

Most riding videos are a highlight reel. Adventure Channel Canada does the opposite: twenty to forty-five minutes of real trail in the order you would ride it, including the dull stretches, because a trail's boring middle third is information you cannot scout once it has been edited out.

A YouTube page cannot answer "what is the launch like at low water". So we built a site around the catalogue: every video sorted by season, category, and location, searchable by trail system or town. Then we built the part YouTube has no answer for at all, a group-ride manager that turns viewers into riders on an actual trail.

The public pages are plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with no build step. The backend is plain PHP with prepared statements, no framework and no Composer. It is deliberately simple software that will still run, unchanged, in ten years.

What the site does

Scout the route, then come ride it with the group.

A catalogue, not a playlist

84 videos across 8 seasons, filtered by category, season, and location, with thumbnails that fall back gracefully when YouTube has no high-resolution frame.

Search that finds the trail

Riders search by trail system, town, or machine and land on the exact ride, so the site answers a question a YouTube channel page cannot.

Group-ride signups

A public form collects riders, their machine, and their region, rate-limited and honeypotted, updating an existing rider instead of creating duplicates.

Invitations that send themselves

The admin plans a ride, picks riders (machines that suit the ride sort to the top), and sends branded emails through a self-contained SMTP client.

RSVPs you can trust

Email buttons pre-select an answer but never record it. Corporate mail scanners follow links, so the extra tap is what stops phantom acceptances.

Its own locked room

Own database, own database user, own session directory. CSRF on every admin post, prepared statements throughout, and no secrets reachable from the web.
